The Martha’s Vineyard Writers Residency is held each fall on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.  This vibrant island has attracted and inspired writers from Herman Melville to Tony Horowitz.  Today, many contemporary authors call Martha’s Vineyard home for at least part of the year.

As a resident of the Martha’s Vineyard Writers Residency you will have ample time to explore and get to know the island community.  The island has many natural wonders from beaches to deep forests, as well as historical and cultural places of interest.  October is a fabulous month to spend on the island.  It is quieter, and the locals are celebrating the end of another arduous tourist season.  This is the month when many of the gatherings that many of us who live here cherish take place.  The weather is dependably mild and pleasant.  Because of this many restaurants and attractions remain open and can be enjoyed without the crowds.

The Martha’s Vineyard Writers Residency is located in the town of Edgartown on the eastern edge of the island.  The town of Edgartown is linked to the rest of the island by frequent bus service.  There are also well maintained bike paths that connect Edgartown to other towns, beaches and attractions.

Within walking distance of the Point Way, where residents are housed, are shops, restaurants, grocery stores and fish markets, museums and a movie theatre.
